The plug in the bath went down but didn't come up again - I used a 'sucker' to pull it out to drain the water.

When I twist the sink nob I can see a horizontal bar in the plug hole move up and down but it is beyond the reach of the plug; when I put the plug in it just drops down to closed and there is no movement when the nob is twisted.

It looks like there is something missing - the shaft on the plug is threaded and there is a threaded hole (on one side) near the top of the plug's shaft. How the heck could something just disappear.

I knew I should have had a shower tonight, at least then I could have blamed the wife for doing it. Unfortunately she's on holiday :-( or maybe fortunately :-)...

I am appealing to the Pistonheads omnipresent all knowing members for help!

I hope its a simple fix - the bath is all tiled in so getting under it is a no-go!

Cheers all, I'll be grateful for any help.

David

edited to say the upload an image thing didn't work very well, here are the pics the old fashioned way...

There was a bolt screwed into the bottom of the plug that made contact with the horizontal bar you can see down the plug hole, this is either in the U bend or flushed down the drain. You can either attempt to fit a new bolt or stick/ram something in the hole in the bottom of the plug and trim it to length so it open/closes properly.

Oops! I don't know if yours is the same as mine but, my plug has a threaded section that screws into the base of the plug. It looks like yours might have come unscrewed and be in the bottom of the trap. Perhaps one of those spring things with a grab at the end could be used to retrieve it from the trap. I would suggest a small magnet but will probably be made of brass, so no good. Other than that, it will require the removal of the bath-panel so as to get at the trap. Good luck!

ETA: Sorry, didn't see your post CYB. Good idea.

Cheers guys. It does seem that there is something missing and it's gone down the plug hole! The shaft has a thread inside as well as the hole on the side at the top of the shaft.

It's not the end of the world I guess, it's only a plug. I'll have a fiddle at the weekend (laugh) and see what I can come up with; either from poking in the plug hole (not much room down there) or improvising...not my greatest strength..

There's always something going wrong!!

If you take the plug to a plumbers merchant they might be able to sort you out with something.

Cheers robinhood. Obvious, but at this late hour it hadn't crossed my mind!

That looks like my plug, is the bath a Kaldekei? Cyb's correct.

If you you are missing a threaded screw into the plu itself that is used to adjust for height. You need a new screw because the bottom of the plug is now not long enough to touch the arm that raises and lowers the plug...

scratchchin If you got it as a bathroon suite the plug in the handbasin will also be the same design.

A)You might want to check the same is not about to happen
B)If it's the same size simply use one plug for both! silly

No stripping down required. Just find a bolt that will fit into the thread inside the shaft of the plug bit and pop it back in the hole.

It's easy to establish how much adjustment is needed and you will probably need to cut the bolt to length. Should have a locknut to fix the adjustment but some PTFE or locktite will work also.

A stainless or at least plated bolt is best.

Cheers all, will get this sorted at the weekend.

It's a new build so didn't get it installed myself. The sinks use a push down plug design so are a bit different..

beer to all!

I'd use a bolt which will fit the thread and include a locknut so you can set it to the right length and lock it in place.
