we've binned the idea of granite due to cost, decided on European Walnut instead, only the quality and cost seems to be in no way correlated from the people we've spoken to so far!

Anyone care to recommend a supplier that is good on quality (of product and service) AND cost?

I got the samples easily enough but had to chase a bit to get the money back after I'd made the purchase. I was very pleased with the quality of the worktops, needing very little sanding before finishing.

Anyone use www.diapol.co.uk for granite worktops? You can cost your worktops online and don't have to pay till their installed. Haven't used them personally, but I did contact some of the people on their testimonials page, who seemed pleased with them

There is a fair bit of it, about 7 - 8m2, plus 2 sink cut outs, lots of polished edges etc, came out at £3.2k. I was thinking of maybe making the breakfast bar out of wood and the worktops out of granite to reduce it a bit but wife isn't sure on how that would look, and realistically I can get the whole lot in wood for £1.2k!

Based on Simpo's recommendation in other threads I bought walnut worktops from them. I was very happy with the quality of what they supplied and the delivery time.

I recently got some worktop lengths & carcass units from http://discounthunters.co.uk/index.htm to fit out a workshop. I went for the end of line stuff but very cheap, good quality & delivered exactly when I wanted.

Yes, recommended to me by a mate. Assuming you put the details into their online estimator correctly, that is the price it is. Had to come back once to expand the hole for the hob (the hob came with multiple templates for different models, and they looked at the wrong one), but apart from that spot on. I couldn't find anyone who could come near the price when I was looking.
