As my house is in pieces it seems only right to come up with some more ideas for it...

The whole roof is trussed - currently it's just the outside walls and roof, nothing in it. This has got me wondering about the feasability of making the ceiling above the living area (exactly a quarter of the floor space) a rafter roof so that we could have a full height ceiling (sloped) in this portion, leaving the remainder trussed?

Vaulted ceiling I presume!

Depending on what your trusses are at the moment it shouldn't be an issue.

Are they typical trusses or are they attic trusses? Simplified typical trusses are "W" shaped and attic trusses are an upside down "V"

Oopes, my stick drawing has gone to pot.

I have W trussed rafters at the moment. I'd like a vaulted half ceiling although thinking about it would it not mean building a supporting wall down the middle of the house for the roof as currently it's the external walls that do the supporting?

Where are you based????

First thing is speak to a structural engineer!

They can come up with goods without taking the roof off!
