Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Student tennancy finished at the end of june but the deposits weren't paid until the 19th of August. I'm not sure of the relevant laws so thought i'd ask to see if there was any way of charging the lettig agency interest or something.

Thanks
Dan

It's only likely to be a couple of pints at most, is it really worth it?

I think 2 months is an acceptable period in which to get your deposit back. The Landlord has to check the property and make sure you've paid all the bills and lets face it the Utility companies are not very efficient. I'd just walk away happy that you got the deposit back, it's not like he held onto it for 2 years.

It woudl have to be in whatever contract you signed.

Anyway, with interest rates at their lowest since 1693 you haven't missed much, even if you were going to put it in the building society...

Which would be .. say a grand deposit, and its a month late, interest rate 3% so £2.50. Not even a pint.

Good callsmile

Pay attention man. If the landlord has an AST, and didnt protect the deposit then the law states the tennant can ask for 3 x the deposit + the deposit as compensation along with interest on the deposit.

A few pints smile

Im about to start legal proceedings myself mwahaha giving landlady a few more weeks just to be sure she is up to her usual un-ethical behaviour.

Also- think the court interest rate is pre-set at around 7% on small claims online

Letting agency, it says. So either legit, so no point, or dodgy, in which case they won't pay any penalty.

lol, oops, assumed was still outstanding. But for the record- Historically its gone 50-50 even after paid as the fine is for 'failing to protect the deposit' ie breaking the law, not for keeping the deposit as in the meantime landlord/agent could have gone bust etc.

Depends on the judge on the day.
