Can anyone recommend a good set for around the £100 mark? been looking for a few days and have found one set but not sure they are any good (Linear, are they any good??) as the Mitutoyo, Moore and Wright, Tesa etc are around £450-£500 for the same range (or have I answered my own question?)

does it have to be a micrometer, or could you use a dial gauge?

i have a cheapy £30 micrometer from somewhere odd (maplins i think), which is reasonably accurate down to about 50thou

anything more accurate than that and i have to get the dial gauge out!

Just find working with micrometers easier and more accurate, ones im looking at are accurate to 0.01mm apparently. Was just looking for something decent but not £450 as only going to be used a few times, then maybe a few more times in 10 years laugh

usually micrometers go in the ranges of 0 to 25mm then 25 to 50mm, 50 to 75mm, 0 to 150 probably do exist but i don't recall ever seeing oneconfused

i know that netto/aldi etc do digital verier guages occasionally that are 0/150mm and are really easy to use, they can be reset to zero, readout can be metric or switched to imperial...
for around a tenner, you can't go wrong, from memory they're accurate to a tenth of a milimeter or so....

You are of course correct, they don't do a 0-150mm micrometer, they are either 6 individual ones or you can buy a one with interchangable gauges.

There are lots of good Vernier gauges about for around £50 but I was just looking for something extremely accurate, seems though, that for the money there is no such set available.

would you not be better just buying a 1~150 digital vernier? they work to the same accuracy that you mentioned, and you can pick one up for £80ish

It's worth a look on ebay -I bought a full set for about £30, old, but recently calibrated. Otherwise use a good quality (Mitutoyo) digital vernier caliper.
