Hello,

Im sticking a new TV aerial in the loft and seem to have a choice of transmitters. Im in Hertford and there is a transmitter here, but the parent transmitter is in Crystal Palace 40 miles away.

Am I better aiming at the closet one, or going for the daddy in CP in the hope of a better signal? The other aerials around here are split 50/50.

I got the info from here:

I would go for the local transmitter, you will get a better signal if you are inside the loft. You need to make sure your aerial is the correct Group C/D and you will need to mount it Vertically not Horizontally. If the Signal is poor then you will need to switch round the CP, which is a different Group aerial.

Or get a wide band aerial.

Vertically, you sure?

To clarify, the ELEMENTS should be vertical, not the aerial itself hehe

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

Put in your postcode and it figures out the expected signal strength, type of aerial to use and direction it needs to point in.

I got this bad boy after seeing a suggestion on PH:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

It says that Hertford is group C/D V and Crystal Palace is group A H. I cant see anything to inidcate what group the aerial is, does that mean it covers them all?

Cheer for the clarification John.

That aerial is wide band, so you should be aright on either transmitter. It is very high gain so should be okay in the loft, remember when the analogue signal is switched off the digital signal will be boosted...a lot! So you may need to fit an attenuator in a few years time if your signal is too high.
