Day or hour rate to replace patio slabs with membrane & gravel, and line the lawn with a brick border.

I guess it depends where in the country you are but here in Norfolk, I have had a few quotes for a soak away with some fencing and border edges to be put in.

Prices range from the bloke on his own at £13ph to a couple of landscapers at £100 per day each....plus materials in both cases.

HTH..

By the way, also looking for a gardener and have been amazed at how many 'gardeners' have answered the Gumtree ad and when they come to have a look at the work, tell me 'oh I dont do plants'..!!!!!!!! FFS what's their idea of a feckin gardener....all they can do is cut grass....banghead

Got a quote (in Warwickshire) for £250 a day. Seems a little steep.

I just used a builder for a similar job (membrane + gravel + lawn edging but no patio to remove) paid £80 per day per man, took 3 man days

I've just had a quote to clear our garden completely - terraced house, 100ft garden - do the patio which will be about one third of the length of the garden, turf the rest and replace the fence down one side with concrete posts and 2m panels. £6300. Even if it takes 2 men a week to do, that's, what, £1500 labour? Seems a lot to me or am I being naive? I've asked for a breakdown of the costs. This is in West Sussex.

Hmm. That's not right is it? 18-20ft would seem more realistic.

Same thing with ours -- Landscape Gardener quoted £24k the builders £11k Eventually cost £8.5k after some haggling. As the builder said, "Landscape gardeners get away with quoting what they like because they are viewed as being specialists rather than brickies!" If there was specific planting requirements for us up to RHS standards of knowledge then fine, but most of it was the labour/graft NOT knowledge!
