I have a Mig welder and a basic welding mask with a flip down filter but I find it cumbersome to use and am about to start welding more regularly than I have in the past.

There appear to be many cheapo autodarken masks out there but can anybody recommend one with confidence please?

Presently using a Parweld XR914H auto darkening helmet with a mig, does the job, approx £40

I've got an auto one from Welder's Warehouse, but in hindsight I wish I'd spent a few quid more and got an adjustable one.

Speedglass, not cheap but very effective and you can get fixed or adjustable.

Hi,

I bought a £35-ish auto mask from Ebay a 2 or 3 years ago, very similar to this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTO-DARKENING-WELDING-HELME...

I bought it because I wasn't sure how well they'd work compared to conventional masks, but quite honestly it's been brilliant. You can adjust the light transmission and in use it's excellent. The downside is that the mask itself is flimsy compared with the more expensive ones so I take more care of it when storing it away. But having said that, it's done a fair bit of work over the last couple of years and still looks and operates like new.

The difference they make to the ease of MIG & MMA welding is amazing; I have a very good quality conventional mask which has gathered dust ever since. Buy one, you'll certainly not regret it.

The Paraweld 914h looks to be popular and well spoken of on other sites too so that's what I've ordered from diywelding.co.uk as its a good price at £37 and free postage.

Don't let the very cheap price put you off - it is EXCELLENT.
