Could somebody tell me why when I turn on the hot tap for the bathroom sink it insists on very rapidly slowing down to the slightest of trickle. The sink is right beside the brand new combi and its the only tap in the whole house that does it. I've got to turn it on to a fast flow for it to continue at a constant rate but doing this, after about ten seconds, it starts blasting out at an even faster rate therefore splashing up the sides and all over the place. When I then try to turn it down again it goes back to a slight trickle. I've tried adjusting the pressure and the temperature but to no avail (sp).

I've had similar symptoms caused by a loose washer. I'm not clear exactly how the problem happens but I think somehow water is getting behind the washer and the build up of pressure is enough to hold the washer down. Open the tap a quarter of a turn and it would start OK and then slow to a trickle. Open the tap a couple of turns so the washer is well clear of the seat, it is back to normal. The cure is to take the top off the tap and replace the washer, or the washer retaining screw, to stop it moving.
