im sure quite a few people are getting annoyed with the nights spent rolling around too hot in bed so im asking if anyone has any tips on keeping a room cool.

at the moment i've got a 40" TV, an xbox 360 and my pc running, all in quite a small room.
turning any of these off is NOT an option obviously rolleyes
i have one window and it's wide open as i've given up on keeping the bugs out. my door is open and so is another window in the next room and im boiling.

any advice on keeping my room a bit cooler?
i hate the noise of fans and can't afford an a/c thing. are there even any gadgets that can help me out?

Curtains!

Leave them shut to keep the sun out.

Ceiling fan. Surprising how much better the air moving makes you feel and they're silent if you get a good one. We've one in our lounge and it can make a 27c room feel completely fine, when without it on it's nasty.

Airflow is the key...so a fan is your only choice really. Buy a really big metal one, a plastic desk top fan just wont cut it.

With his TV, xbox and PC all in his bedroom the OP must still be living in the parental home. The solution is to cut the apron strings, get married and you won't have any of the three items in the bedroom.

The ones you get in US properties are totally silent on lower speeds and are extremely effective, but you don't seem to be able to get the same sort of quality in the UK.

Thermal chimney. Could be as simple as vents in the attic and leaving the trapdoor/hatch open.

Attic vents sounds interesting - mine gets unbelievably hot on a sunny day and I do wonder about the harm it's doing to the things I keep up there. What is recommended, and are they a DIY fit?

You need one of these. Everyone in Aus has one on their house. Its basically a chimney with a whirly thing on top that draws heat out of the attic as it spins. They also reduce dampness in the winter...they work via the power of voodoo and magic 'cos the whirly bit spins even on a wind free day, its just the heat rising.

I believe they are as simple to install as removing a tile and replacing it with this and then cutting through the felt stuff and insulation on the inside of the roof.

Ours is from Fantasia, very good quality but rather more than £60. http://www.fantasiaceilingfans.com/

They look quite like the US ones - chunky great motors.
