Simple Question:

What would you guess the labour cost AND time to build for a 1m high garden retaining wall would be? Double thickness, with blocks at the back. 40m linear, four 90 degree corners, couple of steps up to a lawn. Stone toppers. Concrete footings already in, *all materials supplied*. Would be in reconstituted stone of varying length, but constant course height. In other words it ain't rocket science. I could probably do it myself given enough time. Area is North England. Had three varying quotes so far, all of which seem ridiculously high based on the labour cost of my entire house as built 4 years ago.

Cheers,

Sounds like an easy job for someone!

Say 400 blocks just for the straight run. I reckon that could be done in a day? not sure what the going rate is, though. £30-40 M2?

So, roughly £1600 for the blockwork?

Then another £40M2 for the stonework?

£3200?

Probably more when you take in to consideration the steps, but that shouldn't add a huge amount.

What sort of mix are you using for the face? Sometimes the usual cement mix looks horrible, and it's worth having it pointed in something different.
