Cost to build a barn?
Discussion
Evening all,
Asking this on behalf of my father. He's planning on building a barn - around 7000 square foot or thereabouts. It's going to be an agricultural barn, so needs to be of metal construction, as opposed to fancy timber and beams.
So, how much is he looking at roughly? Assuming he wants somebody to manufacturer it, deliver it, build it, and then put some hard-standing around it.
I know this topic is a little different from the norm, but if anyone knows, it's you lot! Plus, any recommendations of firms to use would be much appreciated. We're in the South East (Hertfordshire).
Cheers!

How long is a piece of string would be easier to answer.
Depends on the height required, taller means stronger uprights.
I have seen quotes from £25,000 to £43,000 for the same specification, though that was a few years ago now.

or try buying a copy of Farmers Weekly or Farmers Guardian and look in the adverts.
Sometimes there are second hand bargains if you are prepared to dismantle and re-erect

Talk to the local farmers they will tell you who is good and who to avoid,as for height go as high as you can.height is cheap and if you ever want to use it for another purpose you can be sure you didnt build it high enough in the first place. As for secondhand sheds dont bother,by the time you take them down and put them up they will cost as much as new.
Many thanks for the advice guys. I think we'd probably be looking at new for simplicity's sake; ideally he just wants to call a company in who can do everything from start to finish. What we know about building could be written on the back of a postage stamp!
Going high seems like a good idea - at the moment the plans for use are storing a few cars, some farm vehicles and equipment, some chopped wood and possibly some crop. However, it's always nice to have the capability to do other things. We guesstimated it would probably be around £50k all in, which seems reasonable.
