SDS CHUCK HELP PLEASE

The SDS pattern chuck on my drill seems to locate the bit OK, but it will then allow the bit to fall/pull out really easily. I don`t use one very often, so is this a routine failure/problem which means it`s completely `ucked` or is there something I can try?
I`ve already given it a good blast with solvent & oiled it lightly. Is it possible for the ball bearings to fall out? If a I need a new chuck how on earth do you remove the old one?

sounds like its on its way out. its not B&Q's own brand by any chance? - those things last about 5 minutes.

Hi - no it`s pretty good quality - Miwaukee - which is Atlas Copco really. Perhaps it`s just had too much hammer....

take it to your local Milwaukee dealer- had a problem with a v expensive Milwaukee impact driver i had, and it was fixed for free even out of warranty which was nice!

I'm soooooooo not an expert, however I have an SDS drill and there are two ways to feel the bit engage - one the right way, and one the wrong way. At least that's the case with my drill - have you tried aligning the bit in differently?

Dip the chuck end of the bit in a pot of normal run of the mill grease and give it a quick run through a brick in the machine.

The locator pin in SDS chucks can get stuck if they're not used for a while.
