Thinking of buying these

How much width can I take off before I'm through the veneer. Isn't 25mm each side the norm?

I would be very surprised if they had an inch of veneer on the edges. If you have a look at the bottom/top edge of the door you should be able to see the thickness of the edging. If you already have a door and cannot see the thickness; drill a hole where the lock will go to see how deep the veneer is.

its only 5mm of solid wood either side, then you are through to the woodchip core

How do I know, I just measured it for you as ive just fitted those doors myself. They are nice doors but not a lot of scope for reducing their size sorry

Cheers for the replies. I've seen veneers of 25mm a side before, think it was on a Wicks pine door. Looks like I'll have to build the frame up and fit the 27" one instead.

Veneer is usually only 1/60" (that's the front and back bit). The bit you're referring to is the batten in each side.

If your doors are standard widths then little or no planing should be required. However if you need to do more butchery than that, my trick is to knock out the battens from their starting position, cut the door to width then re-introduce the battens and glue in place.
