A few weeks back our electricity went off for about 12 hours, just before it came back on the alarm started to go off. Was able to disable it with the code but it then came up with the 'spanner' sign lit up, which the manual says needs an engineer to come out.

Is this definitely the case or does it just need some sort of master reset? Could it be the back up battery, if so is it something I could change without wrecking the whole system?

If I do need someone, any recommendations in the Tonbridge area?

Thanks

Prob. the back up battery, to change it you will need the engineer code. As soon as you open it up it will see this as a tamper.

Depends what alarm system it is.

Some alarms can be reset by the user. Do you know the make of it?

I don't really know a lot about these systems off hand so would have to work from a manual unfortunately so can only give you a basic idea.

IMHO

Sounds to me that your back up battery did it's job as it lasted 12hrs or so, so should be a good battery once fully recharged again ( depending on the original power output of the battery ).

Sometimes though when all power goes and the battery is totally drained, when the power comes back on some panels have a habit of locking themselves up, even though the battery is able to recharge itself.

Have you tried resetting it again with your code recently?

My guess is that it will require an engineer reset with a code if your user resetting procedure is unable to reset it.

I'd suggest calling your company as it may just require a reset which they may be able to do over the phone with you. Depending how your company works, you have some kind of service contract with them and you can prove who you are.

However it may in the end require a callout as the panel might need resetting by an engineer. For obvious reasons I can't discuss how to do this.

Like Dave ST220 says, if you open up the panel yourself it will cause a tamper I doubt you will be unable to reset yourself.

Hope this is of help to you biggrin

parents new house a few years ago, wondered what some button was, seems it was panic button - took a long, long time to find the engineer to get it turned off

worth asking the people who service it smile

Thanks all. I will get someone out in that case. I don't know who fitted or serviced the alarm in the past, there's nothing in any of the paperwork. Presumably I can just get someone from the Yellow Pages?

I see you are based in Tonbridge, if you are interested we are happy to come out and take a look for you as we cover this area.

Our basic service is £75 but will give you it for £65 biggrin. We will also service your alarm and make sure everything is ok for you. You'll also get a contract as well which will cover you for a year and give you a cheaper callout rate with 24hr tech support. biggrin

If it does require a new battery they are £15 for a 3amp or £20 for a 7amp. All prices are including VAT.

Our number is 0844 736 5300 and press option 2
