Foolishly I'm going to be striping our bathroom walls tomorrow, the base coat is all prepped and I'm happy with how to stripe but I'm not so sure where to 'centre' the stripes on.

The biggest wall will have a picture hanging in the centre so ideally would like that to be in the middle of a stripe but that will move the window out and if I centre on the window that will move the tiles out!

I'm I making sense? :scratchin:

Would I be better of adding the total length of the walls up and dividing down so there is no obvious centre point?

Good quality masking tape, the type that lasts for up to 72 hours, that will not peel paint off when released from surface.

NOT the b&q own brand version. the pro quality 72hr stuff will remove your paint. the pink low tack version won't stay on the wall.

Ah ste.

Any particular recommendation? The pink B&Q low tack seemed like the best option whilst I was in there.

me too, which is why i bought 4 rolls. it was to mask the wall [painted, recently plastered] whilst i painted the cornicing. it sticks, then when you come down the ladder for the paint it falls down again. useless! i gave up in the end and learned to develop a very steady hand!

i'd check out your local trade paint centre for recommendations. i know johnsons have them dotted around the country.

How about the blue 3M tape that detailers use to protect panel edges when machine polishing vehicles?

Well I got off my arse yesterday and got on with it and it was worth it smile

Prep time was a good few hours but it paid off, I'd say to anyone considering it to really sit down and draw a good layout of where you want the stripes to go, by doing this I managed to get all the 'features' centred.

I also used the B&Q paint tape and it performed very well.

heres my living room, also have some different ones in the bedroom, will post them up tomorow

id really think if you were doing that to use wallpaper, also when you come to decorate over it you will have the huge proble of seen faint lines were the stripes were previous and it looks horrible, you have to sand them back

Cost, choice, convenience.

The room cost me ~£20 to paint and IMO will last longer than wallpaper due to the damp enviroment that it's in.

And if I decide next week I don't like it I can simply paint over it although I'd rather not!

This should not be a problem, a little sanding will sort that out for you.

I like your bathroom by the way

May I add my stripe to the discussion, Ok its not painted but it is in my bathroom and is off centre. I like stripes as our old living room had them in pink and red, it looked better than it sounds. Anyway here is my stripe:

It was going to go all the way around the room but tileing upside down is a pain in the arse
