I will hopefully (touch wood) be venturing into the self build game soon. My current plan is to get a weathertight shell up to first fix stage, then do the rest as and when I can. I'm not really bothered about how long it takes so I was wondering how long is it classed as a new build and I can claim the VAT back? Also does anyone have any idea how much it will cost to demolish a 30ft x 40ft detached house?

You have 2 months (i think) to claim the vat back once signed off as complete by building control, so take as long as you want to build it, but get the VAT return in sharpish after final sign off.
