Building Decking for hottub!
Discussion
We've been in our house just over 18 months and after doing work on the house, we are finally starting work on the garden. The only constraints were a hottub and a BIG shed for all of the garden stuff (sit-on lawn mower, etc) that is currently stored in my double garage. Work started last week and so far the contractors have been on site for 5 days - more pics to follow as work progresses.
Here are some pics of before the ground works:-
Decking (yellow balau), electrics, lighting and heating starts tomorrow - more pics to follow.

Looking good. Where is the hot tub going? I'm assuming not on the deck due to weight.
If I had one negative comment it would be about the shed. An obviously stunning property with a beautiful hardwood deck and hotub. I'd have had a shed built to be more in keeping or kept it away from that area.
But oh to have to worry about those things
Looking forward to the next update.

The concrete base is twice the size of the shed and half of it extends under the deck so I assume the hottub will sit on that section, inside the gazeboThe pavilion is being wired for heat and lighting this afternoon.
There are roof and sides still to be fitted to the pavilion to provide privacy and weather protection - marine grade canvas and fittings.
The shed will disappear and won't be obvious once everything has been built.
more pics to follow.

Is it me or is the garage nearly as big as your house? Nice plot of land, though.
And the guys opposite... they get a nice view of you and your missus in the outdoor bath?
the garage is only a double and the garden is not overlooked by out neighbours. And the guys opposite... they get a nice view of you and your missus in the outdoor bath?

I sunk my hottub down into deck so it sits about 4 inches higher than deck, be careful that you leave plenty of access for when you empty it etc cos I created myself a bit of a problem by not leaving quite enough space, also, unless you have a drain then build yourself a soak away now before the tub goes in & decking work done.

We had thought about getting LED lights fitted around the edge of the decking, but due to the number that we'd need it was a few grand too much.

I would have sat the tub straigh onto the concrete base and formed the deck round it. Having the tub edges lower, when compared to the deck height would help getting in and out too.
we'd initially thought of doing this, but due to access for draining, etc we decided to sit it onto the finished decking - also means that we won't have a hole if we change the hottub in years to come.ShadownINja said:
Ohhh, I see. Weird with that path running down the middle that's all.
The track is access to the neighbours garden and the road - originally that land had the groundsman's lodge and the big fish pond at the back of the house. Unfortunately, the developer didn't logically divide up the land at the back of the house as he'd wanted to build a new property on couple of acres, but was denied planning permission. There was nowhere else to have access as the land on the boundary is enclosed by a public right of way and the old moat.it does look a bit weird, but actually works very well.
