Just had through the post a letter of acceptance for a bid on a house.

'There is a HIP on the Internet for this property. To access a copy of this document please go to : http://www.hipsworld.com/DownloadDocument.aspx/?to...

I tried to get to look at this, but get an error message thus:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.Exception: #HIP has not been configured for external download# at HipService.GetHIPDocumentToken(String guid) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

So I then rang to the office to explain that this did not work,a very helpful sounding lady said "just give me your email address and I will send it to you". Two hours later an email arrives, not with the HIP,just a link to the ridiculous URL in the letter.

She can't get her head around the fact that this link does not work and states this is the only way the HIP can be seen,I think the Branch manager is in for a bking from me on Monday morning.

Seems a bit harsh. If they are not techies they may well not recognise this!

Just a quick reply explaining the problem again may be as effective.

Did you try taking the question marks off the end of the link?

I put the question marks on the link, this was an example of what needed to be typed in,for a business like they have I would like to think they could use 'snip'this would provide something like 'www.snipurl.com/xxxxx'.
A lot easier to type in and less likely to make a mistake.

To say that this is the only way to see the HIP is online though is taking the Mick, are they are saying if you haven't got a computer you can't see it,or that they can't be arsed to print it off for prospective buyers.

Other such links work OK: http://www.hipsworld.com/DownloadDocument.aspx/?to...

Not sure I understand what you're saying - is your link real or just an example? It looks like the last block in your link is wrong - should have 12 characters (ie 77133CF5C3CF in the one above) and yours has 9 plus the 3 ??? (83E0A2371???)

The EA just copies the link from the HipsWorld website - if it's wrong there then they'll have to query it.

ETA: I tried a few links to HipsWorld and none of them seem to work now (the one at the top of my post did work, but even that won't now).

Rip them a new one - we had nothing but trouble with that lot.

Plonker had given out the wrong link, the new one bears no relationship to the original.

I now realise why they don't want to print the damn thing out for you,60 pages altogether,of which 8 are blank,8 could be regarded as advertising for the estate agent and the firm who made the report,12 are title pages or pages with just one or two lines of writing, with a bit of imagination and careful editing this thing could be made half the size.

Yep, just you wait til you get to Environmental / Flooding / Piping surveys (assuming you need them) - endless pages of tat with naff all substance. Except in our case to list our house as "uninsurable" as it was a "95% flood risk". This coming from the same "survey" which stated there were no historical flood events, no geological evidence for their having been flood events in the last 1000 years, and completely failing to note the house was on the top of a fecking hill.... :grr:
