Hi,

I want to experiment with some painting and would like a large canvas (1mx1m+ )but dont want to spend £60 on a new one as its my first play with it. Is there anywhere that sells really crap paintings cheap that I could just paint over and use? This seems like the cheapest way unless anyone has any other suggestions? thanks

Pound shops in the kiddies section with other stuff like colouring pencils, paints, brushes, pads... Will come on a roll but will be very poor quality.

Have you heard of a shop called "The Range"? They're a huge homeware store that sell just about everything including artists materials, all at knock down prices. Google them to see if they have a branch near you.
Don't forget to post a picture of what you have painted, so we can have a laugh look.smile

hehe

My first work on canvas, I decided to visualise something and put it on to the canvas. Fortunately, the first thing that came to mind was a fire across a lake at night. thumbup

Instead of buying framed canvas look for canvas pads (usually 12 or 20 in a pad)
Or you can buy canvas by the roll. Some places may cut from a roll for you.

To paint over an existing painting, sand down the surface with 60 grit to remove any ridges or bumps then give it two coats of gesso and Bobs your brothers aunt or somthing like that smile

That's an idea.

Someone gave me this dusty old painting of some sunflowers. Said it was by Money or did he say it might be worth some money? Who knows. Anyway, it looks really old school and cheesey, not my thing at all. Was gonna Freecycle it but now I'll reuse the canvas. spin
