As I am banghead my head to the wall any way, please don't tell me what I sh(c)could have done better/different, because I haven't
Fact is I have a fairly expensive, customized corner sofa
I (obviously) checked the two parts it came in fit in (their) corner and through the door
I also checked they fit through the passage, however I did not check the censored stairs and the subsequent ceiling opening to move them upstairs (leaving the sofa downstairs is not an option)
It is 75 cm tall to fit a 71 cm opening (other two dimesions fit, but turning not an option, to get this far I have removed all removable from sofa (feet etc)
So far I see three options
A: Burn/sell sofa, get new one or sit on the floor
positives: no more hassle, quickisch/ negatives: nobody will give me close to what it worth
B: Widen ceiling opening (has a panel linked to staircase/handrail which is possibly wide enough)
Positive: indoors, easy(ish) negatives: don't know if stairs fall down when I remove panel, depending on backside of panel poss to small/ would need to cut ceiling or fail, could damage sofa if squeezed upsatirs...
C: Remove window upsatirs temporarely, get scaffold and put through windowopening
Positive: Failsafe Negative: Outside, weather dependent, invasive, poss expensive

Now have I missed a possibilty???
Which option is most feasable and value for money (to reduce damage...)???
Thanks for your comments

Phone up a decent upolsteruer(sp?) and explain your woes......
The chap who did ours charged something like £80 and a bottle of whisky,...
Try not to drink most of the whisky before spelling upholsterer though!

How expensive is the sofa? This affects your decision...

If it's a £10k Italian jobbie - call a glazier, remove the window and crane it in. The crane will need access to the front of your house (i.e, no trees in the way, etc)

If it's a £500 DFS jobbie - try modifying the ceiling if you really like it, if not get shot - it's not worth it.

Uff - job done
Worked out cheapest to employ a glazier to remove lounge window )incl frame), get a little forklift and lift it through upstairs window (thank god for the excellent weather this we...)
