Has anyone ever built their own gazebo? I'm just mulling ideas over in my head at the moment as I'm not sure what I want.

Out of what? I have just finished building an arbour with a bench in it. Bought some 8ft long 3" diameter wooden poles from local timber wholesaler for the frame, clad it in a trellis from the garden centre and made the seat out ouf some 12ft 4" diamter half round poles also from timber wholesaler. Total cost £78 and couldn't find anything else we liked, especially not of the size 5ft by 3ft for anything less than £150

I want a rectangular one about 2.4M by something... Not decided on the width yet. After today's musing I'm thinking of a fabric roof on a round wooden frame. Think of an open lean to with a removable fabric roof and you're half way there.

I thought of a wooden summer house type thing but I have a small patio so want to go topless too biggrin

The issue with the round wooden frames is connecting the cross members. You'll need to be able to cut semi-circles in you cross members so they wrap around the uprights correctly. I used on of those big hole saws connected to my drill to do it. However problem is it bent the shaft on the drill!

I was thinking of using 3" round wood with some sort of sawn joint.

There are some good plans and ideas for a whole managerie of wood based garden projects here... Even if there isn't exactly what you are looking for there will probably be a few good ideas that you can tailor to your needs.

Try these guys for the Fabric.. and a possible design.

I have a white pop-up 3m x 3m one.. Very sturdy and easy to erect on your own.

A phone call won't hurt.
