Drive alterations - is this a fair price?
Discussion
People of Pistonheads.....
I am posting this because I have no idea if this quote is a decent price:
The picture below shows my drive. My drive is sloped - but not by a great deal. I was thinking of getting the upper part of my drive levelled so that I can safely use a trolley jack and have plenty of space to work on my car (its an MR2 - not the mini!) (no space to work on the wheel areas in the garage!) and the patio removed and tarmacced over (making another viable parking space). The patio is mostly level, so there is an increasing step between the tarmac and the patio from garage to gate. Ignore the decking - its a WIP!
The company I got in to quote was recommended to me and certainly appear to be pretty good. This is what they reckon:
To excavate area of patio stones
To supply and lay geotextile matting
To supply and lay type 1 stone at a thickness of 125mm compacted
To excavate a trench for edging kerbs
To supply and lay on a bed of and haunched in concrete 50x150mm flat atop edging kerbs (14m)
To excavate for soakaway and fill with clean stone
To supply and lay on a bed of and haunched in concrete aco drainage channel and pipe into soakaway
To supply an lay 0-20mm dense binder course at a thickness of 60mm compacted
To supply and lay 0-6mm dense surface course at a thickness of 25mm compacted
to remove all spoils and leave site clean and tidy
Area approx 32m^2
Sum of £3380 exc VAT
Thats all copied verbatim from the quote.
When the chap came around to quote we discussed the planning aspect and considered that a soakaway (where the wheelie bin is) with drainage channel under the gate would be better than already exists (there are two drains right outside the gates) and have a net reduction on the load seen by the road drains. Is this over the top? pointless?
If these are realistic figures then thats ok - just looking for that feel-good factor!
Thanks all!

Nope, it's not obvious on the quote - I gave them a ring to see if there could be a compromise which would allow me to have a flat top of the drive and save up for the rest of the alterations. He didn't think so, and I get the idea he'd already forgotten about it - seems there are bigger fish to fry out there!
Cheers all!
