Can you drown moles?
Discussion
I have a small mole problem in one area of the garden (got an acre for reference)
I've tried sitting waiting with an air gun, trapping and even talking to my cat who likes to sample the local wildlife on a daily basis.................all with no luck to date.
Now I'm aware I could pay a man with a rather nasty gas to come along and stick some pellets in a run or two, but as we're in credit crunch times to save money I've started to pour about 2 million gallons of water into their run (not on a meter yet )
Now it appears the mole has obviously got the hump and for the last few days has not been anywhere near my garden, but my question is: Will I drown the little bugger or is he/she simply lying there in a mankini soaking up the sun and waves as hey drift around the burrow waiting for me to turn the tap off?
Cheers

You could certainly drown a mole but as they're mobile I suspect that when Mr Mole feels it getting a bit damp around his feet he'll head upwards and escape.
I used to work for a company that made 'mole smokes' - no idea if you're still allowed to buy them but they didn't kill the moles, merely made such a disgusting smell that they buggered off to next door.
Sometimes it's easier to live with nature than fight it...

I'm beginning to have this attitude! It's strange as we've lived here for 7 years and last year was the first year we've had moles (with no previous evidence of the critters) and now the bugger/s won't won't go away!

Out of interest what trap are you using?
We always used ones that did a very good job..
Pincer/Scissor traps. We always used ones that did a very good job..
Although I try to trap mid run using a plant pot etc, the bloody mole always thinks it's the end of the run and a hill appears within a day or so!
I have got one mole using these traps but recently they seem to be one step ahead of me......
Have you tried burying it alive?
Few more ideas here though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fePU5CIHpas

I tried just about every contraption to get rid of the ba$tards when I lived in a lovely country cottage a couple of years ago. Ruined my garden.
Did it work..?
Water Flooding - No
Ultrasonic poles - No
Smoke Bombs - No
Waiting and hitting the mole on the head with a Spade - No
Shooting - No
Traps (Scissor) - Yes but couldn't eliminate them entirely(they're clever and avoid the traps)
Local trapper '£££' - Went away for a few weks but came back
In despair, I spoke to the head Greenkeeper at my golf club. He said, the only way is to take their food away. WORMS - (Vermicide). I treated the soil with a Worm Killer that the greenkeper sold me, as many high strength ones are not available to the public.
It took a while to get rid over quite a large area, but eventually the hills did reduce, the lawn recovered and the moles frequented my garden less often.

Good luck.

Tunnel Traps are the way & can catch two at a time.
Be careful not to handle any traps directly with your hands as they smell your scent - use gloves
New traps are best left in a bucket of soil for a week or so to condition
Don't put traps at hills, put them mid run & try and cover to avoid any light getting in.
I have found it best to make a slight space below my traps as any soil the mole is pushing along falls in and doesn't set the trap off before the mole gets there.
(They do feel amazingly soft and it is easy to see why they used to be such a sought after material for clothing)

Well currently little mole has not been seen for a few days - I hope (obviously not going to happen) that he's floating upside down in his run somewhere, but I suspect he's visited to diving centre and bought a BCD and tank and is swimming around like a pro
A furry little fella just bought an old dive watch off me this morning. Insisted I check that it was waterproof to 1 metre depth. ShadownINja said:
