Evening all,

Is there any person/company in the Canterbury/Kent area who wants to come round mine to give us a quote on having a decking area put in the back garden?

Oh yeah, I watched that thread. How big an area was it? I shall give them a buzz.

We've just built a deck over the weekend at my house(there's a little bit of work to do to finish it off), it's about 65m2 in total. 3 mates came over, on the proviso I provided the drinks and BBQs and this took us 2 days. The timber and fixings cost just under £1700. Very satisfying!!!

So long as everything is square and the frame has the correct number of crossmembers and noggins, then laying the decking planks shouldn't be too much of a problem if using softwood. Hardwood is a bit more tricky.

We went for a treated softwood deck. Here's a photo of it nearly finished, rain had stopped play!! We had an old patio and a single garage base to build on, just on the near face where we sunk some posts.
Joists were at 400 centres all 6x2s on hangers.
Deck is screwed in and is the time consuming bit.
All the timber came from Mid Sussex Timber.

Yes agree!
Make sure there is somewhere for the water to run...

Yeah! ours was made of hardwood and the planks where laid at 45 degrees, that created a lot more work and off cuts, but is does look good and different.

By the way jon.b, that looks big and high. I presume you will adding steps

The ground falls away and it is accessed at the far end from an existing patio area but yes i will be adding steps and some planters around the outside to indicate where the edge is. I can see my kids cycling off the top of it until then!!!
