I've got one of these things in my bedroom:

Can someone tell me why, after it is turned *off*, it will flash on for just a tenth of a second every few minutes for the next few hours?

It's creeping me out.

Throw it away and get a proper lightbulb.

Nah. I like it because it lasts longer and is the brightest bulb I can get (our incandescent bulbs only go up to 100W in this country), and this bulb is a 125W equivalent.

Yeah its fine if you are the incredible hulk and are working on your green tan. Renounce the evil that is an "energy saver" and go buy a proper bulb!

It will be a cheap bulb picking up induced voltage and then discharging it, do you have 2 way lighting in your room as this will make it worse due to the longer length of cable with constantly live conductors therefore being able to pick up more voltage. Try a different make as it is generally the cheap Ikea type that do it.

I changed the bulb to a brand new Philips, and the new one did it from the moment I screwed it in.

There's gotta be some leaking current or something - this only started a couple of weeks ago.

And stop with the "buy a proper bulb" nonsense - as I said, I buy the energy saving one because it is the brightest indoor bulb I can get in this part of the world (nothing greater than 100W available here), short of a halogen lamp which will roast my skin.

Is it on a dimmer switch? I know dimmers and fluorescent type bulbs do not get on with each other so this would probably explain the problem.

Awaits posts to the contary.

I'll say it again, it is due to induced AC picked up and trying to fire the bulb when the cap is charged hence evary few seconds it flashes.

Edited due to drunken rambling!

Thanks. This is a recent development though, so I think it can be reversed. Any idea what would cause this? Dodgy wiring? Dodgy switch?
