Had a sparky round yesterday to have a look at the electric shower in the main bathroom and the verdict is that it's knackered frown

Obviously I need to replace it but the problem I have is that whomever installed it originally (before I moved in) made a bit of a bodge of it. As you can see from the pic below, it's very narrow (110mm), nor is it very deep (80mm). Not only that, some of the copper piping has been left exposed and it is positioned so far over to the left of the cubicle that finding a replacement is proving somewhat tricky as I reckon most of the ones I have looked at will cause the shower door to catch;

Also, it looks as though it has been installed and then tiled around rolleyes

It's a Redring Florida but I can't find any online - probably because it's about 13 years old, as is the house.

I've searched for 'slimline electric shower' but they are all still too wide.

Any suggestions as to what I can do? Obviously it needs to be replaced but cheapish would be better as we hadn't planned to replace the bathroom for a while yet - certainly the tiles, as there isn't really anything wrong with them and we are currently in the process of doing the ensuite and main bedroom which seems to be taking up £000's

You say it's knackered, but can it be fixed? One can still get spares for them Here.

ETA: Not sure if these are the same as your model, but the name is the same. Redring Florida.

I wouldn't even know which bit is knackered to be honest - there is a mains switch that every time you turn it on, the fuse box trips. It seems that water is flowing back up into apparently, presumably from the hose to the shower head (I wasn't here when the fella was round).

This is what it looks like with the cover off

Any suggestions as to what I should try and replace first?

Good find - will give them a call tomorrow as there isn't a pic of it.

TBH, if the shower is thirteen years old your best bet would be to replace the whole unit. That's assuming the new units the same dimensions. Good luck!

There are pleny of showers with left hand entries. You'll probably get away with hiding that pipe inside the new shower and it'll most likely cover the tiles.

Pop into your local Plumb Centre and tell them you need an electric shower with a left hand entry.

Spent ages searching last night and it seems the replacement for a Florida is an Active 300S. Only problem is that is now discontinued as well!

Called Redring this morning and explained the problem and they thought it was most likely to be the element so have ordered one to see if it makes any difference.

Redring are absolutely average in terms of quality for their showers. I prefer Mira or Triton (which seem to have a better selection of lefties) as they are available everywhere and seem to last forever. Check the thickness of your cable and try to upgrade to a 9.5kw or 10.5kw shower if the cabling and consumer unit allows for it.

This one has a left hand entry according to the manual and is a decent make. The manual also has dimensions for you to check.

Screwfix are pretty good with online manuals so you can check the fitting without having to buy one.
