Hiscox has been mentioned a couple of times in the old P&P, anyone have any other recommendations ? We are moving to a new place soon and my experience with our current providers NU for buildings insurance hasn't been ideal ...

Also does it tend to be cheaper to get Buildings and Contents from the same place ?

It is usually better / cheaper to get it all together.
Hiscox have a good campaign on at the moment and are doing some cracking deals.
The best bet is to find an independent broker and ask them to do the leg work.
I use coversure in Bognor. Ask for Phil!

I used the Tesco compare website and eventually went with tesco insurance. It wasn't the cheapest but you got £50 worth free shopping and good cover.

I know you said any other recommendations, but...

I went with Hiscox on the advice of the old P&P and I actually had to claim within a month of taking out the policy and they were a little slow, mainly due to a loss adjustor getting involved, but they paid out in full on a claim I didn't really expect to get paid on.

Not the cheapest but I'm pretty happy with them.

Don't Tesco use Norwich Union for their car insurance though? Quite likely it's the same for home as well...

Run away!

(like the way that the tesco comparison site suggested using, gues what - Tesco insurance!)

Quinn Direct is too cheap to ignore. 4 bed detached costs us £14 / month

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, amazing how much time this still takes despite numerous comparison websites, brokers etc....

I have to recommend Fortis, we had some stuff stolen from the shed recently and they paid out the full amount within a fortnight. As I went with them because they were the cheapest around this is a very good service.

Failing that try confused.com , who give you the option of doing contents/ buildings with one company, or with different companies if that is the cheapest option.
