When we bought our house there was waste ground at the bottom of the garden (behind our fence) but we were aware that planning permission had been granted to develop this area, which has happened. Directly behind our house is a green area surronded by the new houses and flats. All very nice you may say but this green area attracts kids playing football who like to use our fence (and those of our neighbours) as the goal. A small amount of damage has already occurred to the fence with more to follow to doubt. We have asked the kids not to kick the ball against the fence but you can imagine their response.

The green area is not maintained by the council but by a private company. I have been in correspondence with this company for 3 years about this but apart from a No Ball Games sign going up (which, unsurprisingly, has been destroyed!) nothing has happened. My suggestion of a secondary fence, similar to the kind of fencing erected around tennis courts, has been rejected on the grounds of cost, even though I said we (myself and my neighbours) would probably be open to contributing to the cost. The latest recommendation is planting of shrubs against the fence but you can imagine how long they will last!!

Does anybody have any similar experiences and how they were resolved. Also does anybody know how much it would cost (approximately) to erect said wire fencing. The grass area flanks some 5 houses so we are talking about 150ft.

Thanks.

You'd be a lot better off with some thorny shrubs.

or how about a goal with net on the green. If you take away the area that kids play on will they get up to more mischief?

Hammer nails through your fence so when the kick a ball at it the ball will burst!

Plant quickthorn along the fence. Cheap and quite quick to establish.
