Looks like we'll be living with concrete floors..... :(
Discussion
Just had 3rd quote in from a different supplier for engineered wood flooring....and its £10k.....from previous conversations we were expecting to be able to beat our previous best of £8.5k.....
Coming to the end of the project and funds are dwindling so beginning to wonder if we should just get laminate....
Good news is that tile manufacturer's rep visited today and was most apologetic and reckons he will be able to sort something out for us...

Interesting!www.craftsmanflooring.com
Their listed projects look a bit bigger than ours though....do they do domestic as well? I take it that you thought they were good...?
What kind (ie wood type, thickness etc) of engineered flooring are you looking for?
What kind of area are you covering?
Were the quotes including fitting, if so was it float with underlay or stuck direct?
Personaly Id wait and save for the good stuff or you will always hate the laminate but never get round to changing it.
Anyway, concrete floors arnt too bad! we have them in the hallway and kitchen dinner whilst we save for the marble tiles we want!

117 sq metres...fitted with underlay.
No prep necessary as floors are levelled and no sk. boards..
You are right about waiting....trouble is its 95% of ground floor and we really need to do it before we move back in....
We bought 100sq meters of 20mm(might of been22 cant remember) Walnut flooring, cost 38sq meter. The underlay is peanuts, fitting should not cost that much, say 2 people at 150 per day each 3 days tops so a grand?? Or do it yourself, really not that hard.
I reckon if your after oak you should get the whole thing in for 5-6k at most quite possiblly alot less.
You need to negotiate harder, the price of our flooring started at 50sq meter!
If your based near Ipswich I may be able to help with some contacts

Couldn't be much further away from Ipswich
Yep, keep being told I should do it myself.....if it was one room I might give it a go but....
To be fair, the 3 quotes have actually been for different products rather than like for like which doesnt help....but then they were the product that we liked from each supplier!
£5-6k we could live with.....
Thanks for input

What's wrong with Laminate ? I reckon to have spent about 1000 quid in total on it in 4 rooms and It's pretty much survived 12 years with only a little wear in the front porch. Coming to the end of the project and funds are dwindling so beginning to wonder if we should just get laminate....

Trouble is that I would still have to find a reliable fitter which is 50% of the problem....
I've actually been dealing with a local importer/distributor, and we do seem to be getting somewhere now.....overnight the price has come down by £1500...!!!! Trouble is that whilst that is welcome, its bloody annoying too....why price so high in the first place..??
Just an idea...
I had concrete floors and did the following:
Got them battened out and the gaps between them filled with some silver backed foam stuff.(£300)
Then I went on Ebay and I bought 50 square meters of 1930's reclaimed pitch pine that had been made into T&G floorboards from old church beams- about £15 per m2 (£700)
Got them laid (£500) and sanded and sealed- (£500)
Approx £2k and it smells lovely too!

A vote for Howard (wedgeman) here. Sorted me out a treat a couple of years ago with some engineered oak floors. Still look stunning.
Just so Howard doesnt sulk, I plan to stay with local supplier/fitter - Nick hasn't beaten you to the business... Nick, you were indeed helpful - cheers for taking the time!
Pics? Yep, will see what I can do as and when!
Have a good weekend all!
