I have just moved into a new house which has a double garage with remote opening doors.

We only have one remote and its pretty tatty. I have looked for replacements on a few websites but all say this model is dicontinued (its a Marantec @ 418mhz).

Can you get 3rd party remote like you can with TV's or can you/do you have to replace the sender unit?

We used to sell remote control transmitters on the web as my husband used to install gate automation. I've just asked him and what you can do is install a new radio card i.e. FAAC and then you will be able to use FAAC transmitters.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Not as simple or cheap as I thought.

Will have to look into this a bit more.

Errrrr.

Most, if not all, remote operated garage door lifts can be programmed to 'learn' the code emitted by any remote on the correct frequency.

I've just bought a new keyring remote for my Liftmaster for £5 off Ebay. Official ones are around £60.
