Stroppy neighbour and noise complaints
Discussion
Quite a bizarre experience with a neighbour today.
Always got on with him. He is the local bathroom man and moved in 5yrs ago. We have bought a bathroom off him and since his move his major restoration has caused no end of building work undertaken. totally exceptable.
We live 4 doors away, get on with everyone around us (as a family). Unfortunately his wife has cancer and has been recovering for 6mths.
We decided to give our large hedge is every other year cut. We bought in a couple of contractors who started with hedge trimmers at 8am. I left for work at 6am.
Turned back up at 7pm, had a quick chat to the next door neighbour and he marches over complaining that we were cutting our hedge too early and upsetting his wife.
He strongly advised us to start any building work much later in future.
In light of the situation with his wife I bit my tounge, explained I have been away all day, had no idea but will pass on to my parents.
In response to his comments for the past 2 weeks he has been having a fence put in starting a similar time. No one batted an eye lid.
My parents are fuming that he complained. I think we should just let sleeping dogs lie and be mature but my Dad wants to go round!
Is he a pain in the arse or his wifes troubles getting to him (understandably I may add)?
This is the first complaint we have had in 30yrs in our street!

If his wife is ill I guess he just needed someone to shout at. Probably not helped by the fact he's self-employed and these aren't exactly the easiest times to be self employed. Think how you'd feel in his position.
I'd say it's not worth upsetting him to the point of having to declare the grievance when you sell the house.
Apologise, blame the contractors and make piece. It's not worth it.

I can only conclude that he's decided to upset his wife as well.In response to his comments for the past 2 weeks he has been having a fence put in starting a similar time.
Either that or he was lying and what he really meant was 'it upset ME (but I'll pretend it was the wife so I don't seem intolerant')
