Zinc Flashing??
Discussion
Advise please... I'm having a roof fitted with zinc faced shingles, the invoice says lead should not be used for flashing due to a chemical reaction with the zinc.
The guy who does the leadwork says he doesn't know where to buy zinc, and could use lead with a bitumen flashing in between to stop the reaction.
Would anybody know where I can buy zinc flashing?
Thanks
Gareth

I've never heard of that before - the idea of using a bitumen buffer between the two substrates could work to stop a reaction, think your roofer, if a reputable guy should be able to get a zinc flashing or other metal to provide a suitable flashing

I'm supprised someone who installs leadwork does not know where to get hold of zinc! It is very popular as it can be cheaper and less likely to get stolen. He may be avoiding using zinc as it is not as easy as lead to work.Paul ( Roofing Surveyor)
Indeed there is a chemical reaction between zinc and lead that will speed up the corrosion! not exactly sure how severe this is! Bitumen or a plastic barrier between the two, as Paul has said should work.

Lots of places show up as doing it, don't know where you are though.
