Budget upto £100. Argos do one for £80 that gets good reviews. Need one capable of doing 2 inch branches
The cheap ones are utter crap. Please don't expect too much from it. Had a £80 special from home base, only wanted it to do one job - that was shread a small tree so as I could get it to the tip. Took me days, spending most of my time sorteing out the jams.... Seems that the majority of them won't take "green" shoots and just clog, being fussy for perfectly straight branches of between 1 and 5cm, leaving you with the rest.cuneus said:
Over budget but you want the Bosch (screw type)
+12" branches will need one that you tow behind a transit. Most domestic ones will only go to 30mm and the quieter screw type ones are neighbour friendly.
You would need to pay £200 ish for a useful one that doesn't jam every 30 seconds.

I have been considering buying one, for some bank hoilday gardening.
I think I will go with a Bosch AXT2000 from B & Q, at £109. I know it won't be brilliant, but it is better than me cutting stuff up by hand.
For more info google Bosch shredders, one of the results is Fred in the shed, he gives some seemingly good info about them.

I bought the cheapy Bosch from B&Q at the weekend, and all I can say is what a fantastic piece of kit.
If (like me) you are a reluctant gardener it is great. I attacked every bush / tree / shrub that I could, and filled my garden waste bin in one 3 hour session. I did more destruction than agent orange would have, but it has tidied the place up.
A good man toy for the garden!
