I've a 14m x 10m garden in need of some tlc.
Also we're not over enthusiastic gardeners so are after something easy to maintain. With some sort of water feature to keep the missus happy.
So I was wondering if anyone would post pics of their garden to give me some ideas?

Conservatory done a couple of years ago. Garden done last year. Previously it was all just turf.

One of the secrets to easy care gardening is lots of ground cover to stop weeds coming through and using perennials rather than annuals. Have a look round other gardens in the vicinity to see what grows well and use those plants.

Who put those tree stakes in wink

hehe

...I'm guessing they're at an angle for a reason, or someone forgot to put the stake in prior to planting wink

Me. They point into the prevailing wind. They are also easier to remove a few years from now, too.

Good idea.

Nice work too smile

Here's my back bit. The support pole on the left is actually vertical, it's just the camera that 'bends' it hehe

Mainly a mix of herbaceous & shrubs. The garden is too small really to pull off anything more dramatic IMHO. The polythene is covering some brickwork edging I did last week for the gravel (I've already had a broken patio door from a stone being flung out of the mower at high speed..so time to sort that out once and for all!)

What do you use to clear up all of the grass cuttings? Is it nopt a nightmare when it gets in amongst all of the shingle etc?

I've got a petrol rotary mower with a box on the back. Admittedly, it is a little overkill for the size of lawn hehe, but have had it since my last garden's lawn was about 3 times the size. Also sooooo much easier than messing about with power cables.
Don't like flymo type mowers for the very reason you state wink

The idea is that the roots are secure but the trunk will gain strength quicker than using a virtical stake. The current RHS planting technique is dig the hole wide and shallow so the roots spread horizontally. Bigger feet give more stability in the short term.
