Hi,
does anyone know anywhere that sells 500mm deep kitchen units. Most places only seem to stock 600 mm units. I have found one place (Howdens) that stock a range, but apparently Joe Public can't buy direct from there. Grateful if anyone knows of somewhere else that can supply direct,

thanks

Can't help with manufacturers but, a lot of the carcases have a 100mm space behind the actual cupboard area. So, as long as there are no pipes/wastes etc that need to go behind the units, they could be trimmed to 500mm.

yes 600mm unit and cut it down - cheaper than sourcing a 500 unit.

Did it myself when refitting our kitchen last year, you can't tell from the front.

Howdens used to sell them two years ago. Quite good value if I recall, and a sit-on sink unit to suit.

ETA Ooops I just read your post fully - I opened a trade cash account, it's not too hard. After all they want to sell stuff but don't want to upset their main trade customers.

Buy a standard 600mm deep unit and assemble it. Draw a line round the back, 10cm in. You'll probably notice that ths will exclude the rear fixings, so add screws just forward of the line to hold the unti together after it's cut. You may need to reposition the rear legs as well. Then take a circular saw and cut off the rear 10cm all round. Simple as that smile

ETA if the sight of the wall bothers you, tack some white-faced hardboard across the rear before fixing the unit in place.

I have truncated units down from 600mm to about 450mm for a galley kitchen in a flat. The hardest bit was shortening the drawers.

Howdens are the guys and an account is easy to start. How about asking someone in the trade to buy them for you.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like Howdens is probably the simplest route

If you use a circular saw with a fairly chunky blade, you can set a new groove into the sides/base to slide the 'orrible hardboard back into as well, if you need to really reduce the depth. But you'll have to do all the slicing with the unit in bits.
Thats if you're buying carcasses as cheap as the ones I've just gotsmile

That's a good idea. Reminds me of my late father's 'wobble saw' - adjustably wobbly for making grooves before routers were invented!

Unfortately I need to put a sink in as well, so the wall units probably about 15 cm too narrow... otherwise this would have been the simplest.
