Bathroom update.... need more help
Discussion
Right.... after getting a load of quotes and then talking with another PHer about it, have decided to go back to my original idea and fk the bath.... I live there and dont use them, im having a walk in shower instead.
So been looking around and have seen the prices of the walking showers go for circa £600 (enclosure and tray) then probably another £300 for the showery bits and then came across this:
http://www.bathroomevolution.co.uk/item--ZWX-LEFT-...
and to get a better idea of the shower itself it can be seen here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Walk-In-Shower-Enclosure...
Now this seems very cheap to me at £500-570 for everything as apposed to circa £900 i would be paying.
What do you guys think to it?
Not bad? going to be dodgy quality? shower column plain ugly?

I plan on staying in the property for a good few years and figured that as i dont like baths, the OH doesnt as she is from Finland and they dont have baths.... whats the point of having a bath cause as pointed out to me, every time i use the bathroom i will always wonder what if for a walk in shower.
as for selling later... if i do, then i can always do a move around again or just wait for the right buyer, since i live in a young professional area, its not like they are going to be difficult to shift.

It looks nice but how solid is it? Are the chrome bits really chromed metal or just plastic with a silver coating?
To pick up on Phil's reply, I'm a bath person. I like to lie down and relax. The idea of having to stand up and have water sprayed over me like a carwash is quite horrendous.

Fair enough Just pointing out the sadly outdated thinking most of the buying public still seem to have.as for selling later... if i do, then i can always do a move around again or just wait for the right buyer, since i live in a young professional area, its not like they are going to be difficult to shift.

Never really been a bath person... sure its good when i have had a sports injury, but its something that was the older generation thing.... that an the fact the bathroom is tiny and the shower only means i liberate 20cm more space at least to move the stter round and the basin to have its own space rather than the cramped section its in now.To pick up on Phil's reply, I'm a bath person. We've done the same, our bathroom simply doesn't work with a bath in it, so we ripped the old suite out and have a large walk in shower now.
We're going to stay there a while too, so not having a bath won't detract from the value, and quite frankly, its such an outdated concept anyway. We've had one in every house i've lived in for the past 15 years and I can't recall ever going for the bath option over a shower...
I must admit, I don't like the column design like that, I prefer wall mounted, seperate head & controls with the pipework hidden. Just looks a bit cleaner to me.

I would think VERY carefully about that enclosure. It is basically a very small shower area with a wasted bit tacked on the end. I looked at these and decided there wasn't enough room in the open part to move around, taking into consideration the footprint of the whole lot. We went for a 800 x 1200 quadrant in the end.

I agree with that.I can't see the point of having a shower which takes up that amount of floor space, and yet gives you very little elbow room inside, just for the sake of a walk in bit
We have a 1200 x 800 regtangular with a sliding door.
Also, two people can shower together, know what I mean 'Arry
You could always go for a wet room of course but, that would cost a lot more!
One of the key reasons for having a bath is young children - they are fundamentally incompatible with showers. If you are likely to be having some, forget loosing the bath, likewise if your property is likely to appeal to families, it may not be a good idea. You say it's likely to appeal to "young professionals" - in which case it's probably okay.
anyone know where i can get a base/tray from and maybe using this as the walls:
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet...
obviously not that price or size but you see the tray there.... more like using:
http://www.simplyglassblocks.co.uk/index.html
what do people think of that?
obviously i will have to calculate the chunkiness of the blocks and so lose a little width.

We've just been quoted £8k for a wet room. Seems a bit pricey, but I have no idea what the going rate is.Dupont666 said:
