Guys

Peeps across the hall got broken into, so while the guy is there, I thought I'd get him to fit a decent front door to the flat.
Its a standard door (apparently). He's quoting for solid wood, 3 new dead locks, a London Bar (metal reinforcing rod) inside the door jam, painting and fitting etc. plus some metal plates over the locks to reinforce the door around them.

Sounds overkill but better safe than sorry.

He's quoting £700 (cash) all in.

Is that ballpark? I have nfi on this subject.

Tks

Sounds a bit pricey.

A good exterior hardwood front door should cost around £200. Auto deadlocking night latch £50, Hinges £10, New letterplate, knocker and number £30. Paint £30. If it takes him all day £150

£470?

My thoughts exactly. Shall ask for a breakdown of costs I think before proceeding...

Recently had it done:

Hardwood door from Howdens ~£120
Varnish ~£10
Hinges £15
Locks (Night latch and deadlock) ~£30
Labour by local carpenter £100

So yes it does sound pretty expensive to me, unless it is something very special.

Got the bill for our door here, it was fitted just before we moved in.

Its about the same amount of money, its got 4 lock, metal reinforcement,London Bar, chain etc. So maybe its the going rate for a VERY secure door. (this is in a flat too)

I can almost get my head round a secure door costing that much, full price.
As a cash in hand job while they are fitting one to the flat next door, it seems a bit OTT.
Just my 2c worth...

This all really depends on what is wrong with your existing door. If your neighbours door got kicked in and was smashed to pieces, then you do need a more secure door. However if the lock was picked or forced so that the catch on the frame gave way, then adding extra locks, hinge bolts,a london bar might do the job.

If the door isn't a standard size that'll push the price up.

coincidentally, one of the quote has just been dropped by £300 - due to spare factory capacity.

also had a replacement fascia quote dropped by £2k (from 7k) for same reason.

If it is a flat then the door will need to comply with fire regulations etc. Mind you its all very well installing the worls best and most secure door, but of no use whatsoever if kicking the door merely results in it breaking out of the frame!

So you might need to upgrade the frame at the same time!
