bathroom quote.... Does this seem reasonable?
Discussion
Been quoted £2,817.50 for my bathroom and was wondering what you lot thought of the quote.
It involves:

Strip off all existing tiling.
Take up laminate flooring
Remove all boxing to check what it covers
Plaster skim bathroom ceiling.
Install four shower/fire rated chrome downlighters to be switched
from outside. Low voltage with individual transfromers
Lay marine ply to floor to provide suitable surface for floor tiles.
(If necessary remove existing floorboards level joists and lay ply
atop).
Fit steel Kaldewei 1600 bath along window wall and make frame
Fit closecoupled toilet along right hand wall and new washbasin
New bath taps, basin taps and surface mounted thermostatic shower control
New soil pipe to toilet and all new fittings to external waste.
Box in where pipes visible
Tiling to floor and tiling to wet area to bath/shower
Fit new chrome towel rail
Labour £2450:00
vat@15% £367:50
Materials PC sums £2,817.50
Bath toilet and basin £500.00
Bath and basin taps £350.00

That is in London and was a recommendation from a friend who is a PHer... anyone know any good bathroom suppliers so i can look up some individual prices themselves?
Most of the online box shifters should be you an idea and to be honest they're much of a muchness. I tend to use a place in Southend (Hadleigh Bathrooms) but they don't have many online prices when I last looked.Damn... just got a friend to redo the quote so it can be read properly as the mac has issues with xls.
Its £2800 for labour and £1800 for materials making the quote closer to £4600.
Just how long does it take to refurb a bathroom and how hard is it?
I thought it would be less than 5 days and that makes it £560 a day to do stuff.
Im now wondering how much I can do myself as I can live at the OHs flat whilst I do everything.
Have asked the builder to quantify the estimate as I have no actual estimate total over all that why I assumed the £2800 included the materials as well.

You could always strip out everything yourself, get a plaster in to skim the walls and ceiling a flooring bloke to sort the floor, a tiler to do the walls, a sparks to fit the lights and a plumber for the rest, btu I suspect the cost of phoning them all up when they've not turned up, and to delay the others because of a delay from the first one will outweigh any savings.
Having done the majority of our bathroom myself, I would be inclined to have a go at it yourself. Its really not that difficult. You have one big advantage of time. You won't be so rushed to get the job done for maximum profit.
At worst I would strip the whole lot out yourself, and make as much good as you can.
It's easy to say it now, but i'd even give the plumbing a go too. You could easily save a fortune

how difficult to remove the suite myself or at least get it into a state that it just needs picking up and throwing away and what kid of price will that save me?
is it worth doing that?
the boxed in bit I can tear apart as its plaster/fibre board and needs checking anyway.... so a hammer and a saw and having some fun by me can also be done.

also taking tiles off the wall is very easy too
That does depend on how they are fixed to the wall really, the old method of cementing each one is a bastid to get off, or if powder adhesive is used. modern acrylic adhesive is alot easier to remove.Ive just spent 2 days with a chissil in my bathroom and still got more to remove
