Double garage costs???

Anybody had a double garage built? Just wondering what the costs are for a brick built, pitched roof double garage.

We recently costed single garages, and iirc it was in excess of 10k. As a result we priced up a single concrete garage (Compton) and it was about 4/5k all in including base.

it's well worth speaking to builders at the moment - labour costs are plummeting as they have to take any work they can!

My other half's parents had a 6 metre by 6 metre double garage with two 8' x 7' up and over doors, with plain clay tile four-hip roof built seven years ago, in very poor ground conditions, final cost was about £15,000; but by using cheaper materials and the current state of the market, you should be able to beat that price.

The base for our large triple was around 2k. In the end brick was too expensive. Right now you must find builders prepared to be very competitive with prices

I've been quoted on a concrete section which was going to be 4m x 10m and that £4200 built without the base.

I'm looking at something like a double garage, with a double width single door, then next to it an open fronted covered area (like a garage with no door) about 1 1/2 garages wide, with drainage to a ceptic tank.

Ball park £25k for a good spec garage inc elec/water services/decor.

This cost me about £7k altogether, but I built it myself, everything, apart from mixing/supplying the concrete for the base. Real roof tiles, concrete block walls etc. It is not quite finished yet, still needs the gable ends covered with PVC cladding.

Also, if a double garage has two single doors with a brick pillar in between, is it likely to be a major arse-ache to change that to one large door?

Only if that pillar is supporting and I would suspect it would be. You need to check if there is a supporting steel running between the 2 side walls above the doors

and importantly, if there is a single beam running through already, make sure it's of sufficient size to take the weight without the pillar there supporting it midway!

I'd say about 10K but would need to see some sort of detail first.
