How can i find where our toilet cistern is leaking from?

A drip is forming on the bottom but from what i can see the water is not actually coming out where the drip is forming.

How do i find the source of the leak?

Cheers

A good light and wipe it well with toilet paper until it's completely dry. It should become apparent.

This is what i thought at first and i'm still not entirely convinced that its not, but it seems to be dripping even when we havn't had bath / shower.

Any way to prove this either way?

Stick some of that coloured toilet cleaner in it....and then you should see any leakage. Worked when we had a hairline crack in our last cistern

It wasn't planned but we found ours by putting a bloo block in the cistern, just followed the blue path back and bingo!

I would only put those blue things in as a very last resort. If you have to work on the cistern you will regret it, the stuff gets everywhere and stains your hands for good measure. frown

If you find it is not condensation.
A chalk puffer
Same as you would use for finding a difficult oil leak on a car.

I take it it's close-coupled? If it's not condensation my money is on it leaking from the "doughnut" - the massive rubber o-ring that seals the cistern to the pan.

Or stick a pan under it and go back to the telly?
