Any roofers on here?
Discussion
I'm after a ball-park figure of what I should expect to pay to have the ridge tiles on our house re-pointed.
Over the 3 years since we've lived here, we've had chunks of mortar falling out periodically and now you can see long lengths of ridge tile that have no mortar between them and the tile below.
I believe that the best thing to do is to have them re-pointed before the wind gets under the them and throwns them off the roof.
Its a 30's 2 bed semi where the ridge runs horizontally along the top edge for about 15ft then down the 2 corner ridges to the corner of the house.

Ive just been quoted £1300 for mine - 1920s three bed semi. Most of that seemed to be for the scaffolding.
I'd get another quote or two....I'd have someone do it for £750 max...although I do understand that scaffold is pricey now.....O/T - what a great sounding job you have!

That's the problem, elf and safety officially wont let them use a ladder and roof ladder, like they have been using for 100 years!! If you find a guy who will use a ladder, I'd guess about a days work, so £300-350 all in?
I did my own at the last house, it's pretty scary up there on the top! !
The ridge need to be striped off and re-bedded.pointing over the top will just flake off in time.
Scaffold for a hipped roof semi as you described will be circa £500. Re-bed original ridge around the £450 mark, so should be around the grand mark even replacing a few damaged ridge tiles....

Lovely.
Whilst the scaffold is up, is there anything else roof related that could/should be considered?
I'm wondering if I could just rent a cherry picker and do it all myself though!
That machine is £250 for 3 days hire.

Hip ended house by the sounds of it.The price will depend on access, if you can get a portable tower scaffold on the hip end and one side it will be a lot cheaper. I would do that with the tower for about £300.Over the 3 years since we've lived here, we've had chunks of mortar falling out periodically and now you can see long lengths of ridge tile that have no mortar between them and the tile below.
