Can you put a ceramic dish on a electric hob?

This reminds me of a story,
When my parents divorced in about 1980 my dad moved next door (actually he bricked up the doorways, as he built an extension on our house some years earlier, and fitted a kitchen) my mum and I were in our kitchen when we heard a loud bang, and after a lot of swearing coming from my dad.
My mum suggested I go and see what happened, I walked round and as I walked into the kitchen I was presented with a collection of vegetables stuck to various parts of the kitchen and my dad standing ther covered in some kind of green sludge mess.
He had borrowed a pressure cooker from my mum but had not relased the pressure first before he opened it!
Tit!
