Folks,
Trying to get an idea of cost for fixing a minor issue I have here..
External door from kitchen to garden is locked, it's a mortice lock I think.. uses a key like this :
Or at least it would do if we could find the fecking thing!
So.. The question is, how much is it likely to cost to get this sorted out and how destructive is the process? The house is rented and I don't want to damage it too much!
TIA,
slinky

If it's a 3 lever mortice lock there are about 100 different keys, if it's a 5 lever mortice lock it's in the 1000s - which is why you're supposed to fit 5 lever mortice locks.
I'm not a locksmith but one of my customers is and he's able to pick locks quite easily. The cowboys just say they need to drill the lock out and replace it.

Any halfway competant locksmith will be able to open it with no damage then you can remove and replace the lock. Call out charge might be 50-100 quid though.
Look on it as a way to learn a useful life skill. There are loads of guides (and even videos) on the 'net teaching you how to pick locks...
