The rising main at my parents is 3/4" black plastic pipe, which currently has a 1" brass stop cock fitted to it with an internally sleeved compression type fitting. Stop cock is knackered and we can't get a drop in replacement so want to fit a 22mm stop-cock ( as there is 22mm copper the other side of the current stop cock)

Only problem is I can't find an adapter for the plastic pipe that will fit in the rather cramped space. Only one the local plumbers merchants had is about 4" long and 3" diameter, just for the adapter!!

Any other solutions / adapters?

IANAP but BES list "stop cock adapters" for 22mm copper:

http://www.bes.co.uk/products/168.asp

But it looks like they only cater for 1" to 22mm or 3/4" to 15mm. Maybe the former with an adapter on the MDPE pipe first?

I might be wrong, but I thought Blue MDPE was different dimensions to black (LDPE?)

The Black MDPE will be either class C or D from memory, and will need an adaptor to fit a more modern stop tap to it.

I'd be looking at a stoptap for 25mm blue mdpe with an adaptor, and a copper 22mm insert for the output side.

Is the seat of the stopcock damaged or is it just the spindle?? You could buy a 1" BS 1010 stopcock and swap the workings??

It was the spindle, which has now had a refurb as suggested, cheers Ferg smile
