Council tax band change
Discussion
My mother's house is a G band, all the other houses of similar size in the area are F bar a couple which are bigger than hers. I've been on the website and challenged it yesterday. It's Birmingham city council but unsure if if just goes to a central government hub. Has anyone else done this and what results did you get. Her house is newer than the others (1985) and it was built with a near identical house next door which has a larger plot and that is an F!
Biggest Con going.
Only look at the bandings when you move house.
Previous owner gets all the benefits and lower council tax as do any neighbours for the same house.
What extra services do we get compared to the neighbours to warrant £500 per year more ?
Having owned for 24 years next door, one was the same size and the new house next doors is extended we have paid more council tax than them.
Must be a few thousand pounds more we have paid over all the years.

Nothing is stopping you from making a case, I was in my house for seven years before making my claim. It takes some effort, I probably spent 2-4 hours on it, but not bad for £5-6k and a reduction going forwards. Only look at the bandings when you move house.

We checked our old house's band vs identical house next door and we were the same.
Noticed another house in the cul de sac was a band higher than the other identical ones and let the owner know. She got it re-banded and a big cheque repaying several years of overpayments. She gave us a very nice gift voucher as a thank you!
