Unobtainable 1/4 turn cartridge

Has anyone come across a tap which doesn't use a 1/2 bsp threaded cartridge
I have a cartridge which matches in all other dimensions but it doesn't screw in.
I've measured the od of the thread at 19.7mm which isn't really corresponding to anything. It's definitely not 1/2 bsp (Badly machined m20 perhaps?)
The taps are unusual. I've not seen similar for sale anywhere but they are on a double vanity unit so I'll have to replace both if I can't find a the right cartridge!
Any pointers or is it new tap time.
