Smart meter fitted then "you have a leak"

So just trying to measure down whether there is an actual leak....I'm sure my first experiment with internal stopcock shut, it still loses an amount, anything up to 10L an hour....
Literally no perceivable leak inside our house though or elsewhere. Also shut off a stopcock to tap to outside/ downstairs outer toilet.
No visible leaks.
Just doing the same with the outer stopcock.....I'm not 100% sure I had it fully shut, it MIGHT have slowed, tightened a bit further, and read and I don't think it had since changed so looks like the water consumption at the meter MIGHT have stopped but will measure again later.
Does this point responsibility at our side or still some chance?
We have to speak to them tomorrow giving them time to process the internal stopcock turned off for min 6 hours overnight at the weekend, they need 3 days to process
Seems coincidental "we just fitted you a smart meter" with "oh, look theres a leak" though....
Just not sure if the outer stopcock test proves anything
If you've turned off the internal stop cock and the meter was still registering usage and you've turned the supply off at the meter and it's not registering a usage then the issue is between meter and your internal stop cock.
The leak was probably already there it's just that the smart meter taking readings every hour is as a result showing constant usage - and this is normally a leak somewhere.

Been there with AWA after smart meter fitted. Let me know I had a leak.
In the end it was the meter tails joint to the pipe to the house was disturbed when they twisted the meter in.
It's within the path so they're problem.
Took quite a lot of time to get them to dig it up. Most houses on my estate now have new tarmac around the meter with the same problem.
Explain this to AWA. They must know that this is the issue.
Email to AWA people sorted it

Just been through this myself with United Utilities, only I didn't have a smart meter and it was us who told them our consumption was too high when our bill tripled in the space of a year. Checked everything and determined that it was either a leak under the drive or a dodgy meter.
Having previously left us to our own devices to sort, they finally relented and agreed to send someone from their metering team to check the meter. The guy they sent was great - got his listening stick out and told us it was probably on the meter join (outside our boundary). Next day they sent a team around who dug down, located it and fixed it.
We were "using" 600L per day and they couldn't even be bothered to help us find it. I'm now having the joy of getting them to repay me what they wasted - despite asking for meter readings for actual usage so they could re-calculate, they decided to use a number 40% higher

Because they've been fitting smart meters to homes on un-metered usage (AKA the old rateable value assessment)?? Got a card through the door from Thames Water "You've got a leak".

It's their water once they have the data the usage pattern either looks normal or not if it shows usage across every hour of the day and night then it's likely to be a leak.

Its dry at the meter itself, who substantiated this so I can get the same repeated, is it just a case of AWA coming out and prompt them specifically on this point when they arrive do you think ?
Got to speak to them tomorrow anyway as thats the minimum time they wanted before speaking to us after we confirmed internal stopcock off + 3days

What rights do ‘they’ have to enter property - anyone know?

Also they are likely to cover any pipe work beyond the water meter (if the usual type)
Plus the water loss .
Mine did (Admiral). Just standard ins.
Covered leak detection and moled in a new pipe, £2k. Premium didn t increase after.
I didn t instruct any leak guys, just passed it to them to deal.

Yes included, up to 5k worth - worth noting £200 excess and possible increase in future premium and lots of opt out regarding wear and tear etc
Middle ground is not letting them go with their lackies, instead the 5 star guy who works for us but they require damage report from them first beforehand

I have had them call in asking about our usage, perhaps in your case they could hear water flowing but received no answer at the door?
I do have a friend who did the job for a while so I could ask him if you wish?
They dug out our water meter connection today and confirmed a plastic pipe leak there so in my case that is good news hopefully for us now.
Got an eye on the reading to make sure its now sanitised and stabilised and I guess follow up call to them to confirm they no doubt know/can tell that our usage is now "normal" not leak consumption and can get allowance for wastage.

Following this with interest, have had ongoing issues with a water meter that shows flow, even when the stopcock is turned off at the house. The house is unoccupied quite a bit (both travel for work) and we religiously turn the water off!
Had the pipe from the meter to the house tested multiple times and no leak found.
The last time the guy showed me that the o ring around the non return valve on the meter was damaged and replaced it, however he warned that the leak has damaged the housing and it would go again.
Low and behold it reoccurred and the water company just don't seem interested! Ive asked for a new meter but they insist there is no issue.

Leak guy came out with his gas testing yesterday, exact same issue as you, leak is from or near meter, report for Anglian Water being written up to be submitted! Useless shysters!
