Does this usually do much damage?

I hope so, because the pillock over the road is making a lot of noise having this done...

I had an incredibly extended car wash session recently as I was being distracted from the task at hand by a diagonally opposite neighbour having their roof jet washed. Lots of whizzing (short delay) then smashing sounds as various tiles came adrift. Most amusing watching the trying to hold the rotating brush head against the tiles whilst sat straddling the ridge line!

My neighbour 3 doors away got his roof washed 3 years ago.
He got his house reroofed at the start of this year.

No one else on the street has had their roof washed.
No one else has reroofed their house.

The houses were all built in 1998.

Takes at least two weeks to do it properly.

This only seems to have become a thing to do over the last 5-10 years.

I did my garage roof, it felt like I was walking on thin ice, dread to think what damage could be done by high pressure.

I am looking to getting our house roof steam cleaned and then a biocide treatment applied, watched videos and it looks sound. However, don't all sales pitches/videos look sound! I would not have the roof pressure washed.

Steam cleaning is just a hot version of pressure washing where the water temp is 80degC, this would probably do even more damage to a roof.

Watching the sales video, there seems little pressure and not nearly as much water. I have a number of questions, I will add this one before making a decision , so thanks.

Next door did his then had a new roof within six months.

Depends entirely on what tile/slate you have on there.

These tiles are circa 100 years old, but I had the reclamation place jet them before they took them off the church.

No problems 7 years later and they have now got the patina I was after.
