I am after a new garden shed. Old one predates our moving in 15 yrs ago and is now falling apart slowly.

I only need a small one, matron - 6ft x3ft pent roof wooden toolshed. To go on existing concrete base. There are a lot of options out there, ranging from about £300 to a couple of grand. What is a sensible mid-range choice?

I want a decent quality wooden shed that goes up fairly easily, looks respectable and will last a few years. Any brand/maker recommendations to help me narrow down the shed search? I am in SE London.

Tks in advance.

Tiger sheds are the usually recommended one on here.

To be honest, I think they’re all pretty much the same for your basic shed, whether it’s Tiger, Empire , shedsdirect or even your local DIY “shed”. All made out of 2x1 at most, bit of shiplao and 6mm osb for floor and roof. Perfectly fine if that’s all you need.

In our old house I had two Tiger sheds. One a pent tool shed a similar size to what you are after in feather edge and a shiplap pent bike store.

Both were 7 years old when we moved and were still as new having been treated with a decent wood paint. Of note all Tiger sheds come in a hideous orange colour as supplied. The supplied hinges rust to bits though in no time- well worth upgrading on first installation.

Both were on concrete but I added tannalised bearers to keep the base off the ground.

Now we have moved I need a 10X8 workshop style shed so I'll buy from Tiger when they next have a decent sale. I will upgrade to an EPDM rubber roof this time around (albeit the felt did last on my old ones)

Last time I was in the market for a shed I had a trawl around Bourne Buildings and ended up with something from Topwood.

Got a bit silly with spec as so many options/customisations possible and I can never resist trying to tick as many boxes as I can.

We've used these guys recently

Also went for the thicker timber. Good price compared with the competition.

I wouldn't ever buy a timer shed again

They always. warp, leak, rot and deteriorate

We have a few of the Keter composite sheds and have to say they are absolutely bang on

The colour does look a bit strong on those Tiger sheds. Does it fade much, and if so how quickly?

They have one that is pretty much a straight replacement, and look solidly made.

How bright is the orange/brown colour? Ideally I would like something a bit paler than that.

Interesting alternative, will look at those although not sure my OH will go for a plastic one.

Topwood are based in Sussex, with a few displays around the South East, my parents have one of their potting sheds, and it’s excellent. When my patio is finished I am getting one of their mini sheds, to go on the side path.

They are often cheaper than the wood option as well as lasting longer, but check they don’t have external hinges that can be unscrewed.

Also they are an Israeli company which is either a plus or a huge negative depending on your political views.

Ours is more of a natural timber colour.

Asgard

there are various promotions throughout the year if you are not in a hurry. And the bundle deals are the best value.

Why not build one?

A pent design is really straightforward to build as you don’t need to worry as much about pitched roof angles and getting the front/rear panel heights the same.

There’s not a lot of timber in one the size you mention, and the panels would be easily handled solo if you had to.

Would give you the opportunity to upgrade the thickness of timber and cladding.

I have entertained the idea. Main drawback is that my neighbour plans to replace his at the same time with the same kind of shed I get, so I'd have to build two;)

Another vote for Keter sheds. I'm more than happy with mine and you can get them in a wood effect finish or paint them any colour you like.

We had https://www.beastsheds.co.uk build one 13’ x 5’ apex shed for an awkward area by our garage, perhaps 15-16 years ago.
Still solid & secure.
Son & I did rip off the felt roofing and replace with EPDM - a far better roofing material!

I’d also ask whoever you chose for a “piano hinge” for the door - we got a 10 x 6 potting shed maybe 10 years back, a bargain jobbie, but it came with that, & it is clearly better for doors - no sagging at all!
